Update on Mom’s Trip

Mom left tonight. Some highlights of the trip:

  1. Riding ponies in Lesotho.
  2. Seeing the Indian Ocean and feeling like we were sand blasted by the crazy wind.
  3. Shopping in Swazi and Jozi
  4. Hanging out with Becca at Malandela’s in Swazi
  5. Seeing a Leopard and Baby Rhino in St. Lucia
  6. The Drakensburgs
  7. Mom’s trip to Cape Town which included whales, penguins, wine country, Table Mountain and lots  and lot of flowers.
  8. Driving, driving, driving, driving in South Africa.
  9. The Apartheid Museum in Jo’burg.
  10. Seeing almost a million hippos in St. Lucia.

We had a great time. I fly back on Oct 13…so see everybody soon!

Momma A

This week Momma A comes. I’m getting excited. We have lots of things planned….craft shopping, safari, Zulu Tours, Drakensbergs, Ponies, Tiny Mountain Kingdom, Swaziland, Snorkeling, Joburg…It’s gonna be really fun! Pictures to follow…

so just a quick update because it feels like I should say something. There was a Peace Corps Volunteer who was shot and killed on Friday night here in Maseru. Maseru isn’t big enough for anything to be “far away”. The hotel near where he was shot is just about a 20 minute walk from my house…but like a one minute drive probably. It is on a road right off the middle of town. It is kinda unbelievable that a shooting could happen in the middle of town like that. Here is the CNN article that talks about him and the incident. Unfortunately, I don’t know a lot more than what this article says…almost all of the information about the incident is passing word of mouth through the expat community…
